Bangladesh bag comfortable win over Nepal

Bangladesh started their title defense of the SAFF U-18 Women's Championship 2022 registering a comfortable 4-2 over Nepal at the JRD Tata Complex on Thursday.

Afeida Khandaker put Bangladesh in the lead in the second minute itself to become the fastest goal scorer in the tournament so far. A well delivered corner from Sapna Rani was headed home by Khandaker. Dipa Shahi restored parity scoring a long ranger in the 31st minute but the joy was short lived as Bangladesh regained their lead with Most Aklima Khatun getting in the score sheet in the 33rd minute.

There was no looking for Bangladesh thereafter as Mst Eity Khatun made it 3-1 and Shahada Akter Ripa made it 4-1 going into the second half. Bangladesh continued their dominance over Nepal in the second half as well, but could not really make the pressure pay. Just as the match looked to end with a goal in the second half, Nepal found the back of the net through Amisha Karki in 90+3 minutes.

Bangladesh coach Golam Robbani Choton expressed joy over the win but was mindful of the vulnerabilities of his defense line. " We had a good preparation for the tournament as we trained over two months. It's an important to us as it sets our pace for the next matches, but we need to work on our defense line we are to progress further," he added.

Nepal coach Darshan Bhakta Raj blamed the lack of coordination between the defenders and goalkeeper for the loss.
