Bangladesh Make Dream Start in SAFF U 18 Championship 2017

A dramatic start to SAFF U-18 Championship 2017 opening match between India Under – 18 and Bangladesh – U18 in 7-goal thriller, Bangladesh edged India by one goal 4-3 at Changlimithang National Stadiumon 18 September 2017.

Bangladesh U-18 created history after 3 goals down in first half to beat India 4-3 in second Half. It was first time in the history of Bangladesh football with epic come back to defeat the tournament favorites India.

Up until the half time it was the Men in Blues that led the match 3-0. It seemed as if Team India had it done, taken all the glory out of the match. The team looked tensed and it appeared that the team was under a tremendous pressure.
Resurgent Tigers appeared fresh in the second half and came to prove who the real kings were. MdRahmat Mia in Jersey 03 broke the Indian defense line in the 60th minute. With this started a torrent of goals from the Tigers up until to the 89th minute and walked home with all the glory.

“We had to change our strategy in the second half and we depended more on our long ball”, Said Bangladesh Head Coach Mahabub at the post match media briefing.

According to Indian Head Coach Floyd Pinto “our side couldn’t deal with the set piece”. “Bangladesh was brilliant on set piece and it will be difficult for rest of the teams in the tournament”.

India was on the way to a dream start in the tournament. Indian players missedto carry on the rhythm of the first half to the second half. The players looked tired and the midfielder couldnot keep the ball as the Bangladeshi players came rejuvenated and keep pressing the Indian half with dangerous long balls.

“We are to blame ourselves and we will come back stronger,” said the Indian Head Coach. Meanwhile two Indian key players captain Panwar and Singh received seriousinjury and had to rush to hospital.
