India made a superb takeoff in the SAFF Under-15 Women’s Championship 2018 thrashing Sri Lanka by a massive 12-0 margin in the tournament’s opening match at the Chalimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Thursday, 9 August 2018.
The way India girls broke into the Sri Lanka defense in the very first minute and returned with a goal was the indication to how they are going to handle Sri Lanka who were still adapting to the pitch. Shilky Devi, who scored the opener, later scored two more goals in 19th and 44th minute to record her first hat trick in this tournament.
With Linda Kom, Avika Singh and Sunita Munda scoring in the 6th, 14th and 42nd minutes, India closed the first-half scoreline with six goals to nil.
In the second half, they took just two minutes to again start their goal fest. This time it was Kritina Devi who netted to raise the score to 7-0. Avika Singh made it 8-0 scoring her second goal in the 59th minute.
India girls took 17 minutes to score four more goals to seal the margin. Kiran scored in 72nd minute that saw the scoreline raised to 8-0. Sunita Munda scored her second in the 79th minute and substitute Anju pinned the last two goals in the 87th and 89th minutes.
India will play hosts Bhutan in their next group match at the same venue on 13 August 2018.
