Russia maintain lead at top

Russia maintained their lead at top of the table of the SAFF U17 Women’s Championship 2023 following their 3-0 win against Nepal at Kamalapur Stadium on Sunday.

The win gave Russia nine points from three matches and need just a draw against India in their last outing to win the title. Nepal, on the other hand, are at fourth with three points.

Russia had to wait till the 63rd minute of the match to break the deadlock as Nepal defended exceptionally well putting all attempts of Russia at bay. Elea Golik opened the scoring for Russia in the 63rd minute and doubled the margin scoring in the 75th minute. Polina Filshina scored the third for Russia in the 83rd minute.

In the first match of the day, India bagged a one-sided 9-0 win over Bhutan. India are at third in the standing trailing host Bangladesh in head-to-head.

Shilji Shahji scored five goals (12’, 62’, 69’,76’, 79’)  in the win for India, while the other goals came from Sibani Devi Nongmeikapam (42’, 61’), Thoibisana Chanu Toijam (56’) and Menaka Lourembam (3’).
