
Russia bag SAFF U17 Women’s Championship 2023 title

Russia won the SAFF U17 Women’s Championship 2023 title after finishing at top of the table with 12 points from four matches.
In their last match of the championship, they defeated India 2-0 in the match played at Kamalapur Stadium on Tuesday.
For Russia, Vasilisa Avdienko scored the opening goal in the 10 minute followed by Daria Kotlova in 13th minute.
Bangladesh finished as runner-up with seven points from four matches, while India stood third with six points.
Similarly, host Bangladesh played a 1-1 draw against Nepal earlier in the day. The point earned from the draw put Bangladesh second in the standings with seven points from four matches.
Host Bangladesh were stunned by Nepal with an early goal when Senu Pariyar single handedly dribbled the past the entire Bangladesh half before scoring the opener for Nepal in 8th minute.
Arpita MST Sagarika restored parity for the home team scoring in the 75th minute.
For the individual awards, Russia’s Elena Golik was awarded with the Most Valuable Player. Shinji Shahji bagged the Highest Goal Scorer Award with eight goals. Nepal’s Sujata Tamang was adjudged the Best Goal Keeper, while team India took the Fair Play Award.
