Kuwait and Nepal to play the opening match of SAFF Championship 2023

Visiting team Kuwait will face Nepal in the opening match of the SAFF Championship 2023 scheduled to be held in Bengaluru, India, from 21 June – 4 July.
At the official draw ceremony that took place in India, All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey, South Asian Football Federation General Secretary Anwarul Huq and AIFF General Secretary Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran conducted the draw for championship.
The draw mechanism was as follows:
- There will be 7 Pots altogether, 4 Country Pots, and 3 Group Pots.
- Group Pots will have only balls mentioning group names ‘A’ & ‘B’.
- Country Pots are decided in accordance with the current FIFA Ranking, except for the Host who will be considered along with the Top Seeded Team
- Country Pot 1 will contain the Host Association (India) and the Top Seeding Team (Lebanon).
DRAW MECHANICS
- The Second Country Pot will contain the Third and Fourth Seeded Teams.
- The Third Country Pot will contain the Fifth and Sixth Seeded Teams.
- The Fourth Country Pot will contain the Seventh and Eight Seeded Teams.
