India U-18 women made winning start in the SAFF Under-18 Women’s championship 2018 against hosts Bhutan in the tournament opener at the Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu, Bhutan on 28 September 2018.
Roy Devneta scored twice while Manisha and Ashem Roja Devi scored one goal apiece.
The winners however remained goalless in the two third of the first half though they made a number of scoring chances. Roy Devneta earned breakthrough for India U-18 women when she netted her first goal from a perfect cross by substitute Manisha from the right wing.
Indian girls were 1-0 at the breather.
Bhutan girls magnified their efforts to come back in the second half but they hardly could penetrate the Indian defense line.
India doubled the score when Bhutanese goalkeeper Shuagurumayum Monika Debi in the 50 minutes failed to stop Roy Devneta’s 20-yard long shot.
In 64th minutes, Manisha scored the third goal while forward Ashem Roja Devi sealed the margin 4-0 three minutes later.
Six under-18 sides from the South Asian region are competing in the 10- day competition after Sri Lanka pulled them out from the competition.
India U-18 women are set to play their second and last Group-A match against Maldives U-18s Tuesday, 2 October 2018 at the same venue.
