SAFF U15 CHAMPIONSHIP: Pakistan shock holders India in the opening match

Victorians Pakistan U15 boys celebrate win over their Indian counterpart.

Pakistan shocked defending champions India by 2-1 goals in the Group B opening match of the fifth SAFF Under-15 Championship that got underway at the ANFA Complex, Kathmandu on Thursday, October 25, 2018.

Midfielder Wasif helped Pakistan settle the largely even contest in the 85th minute with a powerful strike from inside the box after he was nicely fed by Mudassar Nazar from the left side.

Adnan Justin put Pakistan ahead in the 30th minute with a left-footed drive from the edge of box in the near post before forward Thlacheu Vanlalruatfela equalized for India in 53rd minute.

Receiving a through pass from the midfield after a goal kick, Vanlalruatfela raced past two defenders inside the box to place the ball on the left corner of the post for the equalizer.

Pakistan created most of their attacks from the left wing, which yielded the late goal for them, leaving two-time champions India very little time to respond.

Bhutan are the other team of the Group B in the tournament, participated by six SAFF members.

Hosts Nepal joined Bangladesh and Maldives in Group A.

The tournament will run from October 25 to November 3 in Kathmandu.
