Hosts Nepal got off to a flying start in the SAFF Women Championship
2019 when they beat Bhutan 3-0 in the opening match of Group A at Sahid Rangashala, Biratnagar on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
In a lopsided display, Nepal took the lead in the 14th minute of the contest through forward Manjali Kumari, who struck a powerful drive from the right corner of the box.
It took Nepal only two more minutes to double the margin when star of the show Sabitra Bhandari beat an off-side trap to place the ball in the left corner of the post.
Captain Niru Thapa completed the rout in the 55th minute taping the ball home after a Sabitra header fell to her feet with the Bhutanese goalkeeper already beaten.
With the win, Nepal went a step closer to the semi-final from a three-team group, which also included Bangladesh.
Nepal will play against Bangladesh on March 16, 2019.
India, Sri Lanka and Maldives are competing in Group B of the competition.
The fifth edition of the tournament will run until March 22.
