SAFF Women Championship 2019: Nepal thrash Sri Lanka to enter final

Hosts Nepal crushed Sri Lanka 4-0 in the first semi-final to move into the final of SAFF Women Championship 2019 at the Sahid Rangashala, Biratnagar, Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

In a stunning second-half display, Anita Basnet, Sabitra Bhandari and substitute Rekha Poudel scored one goal each after defender Punam Jargha Magar put Nepal 1-0 ahead at the end of first half.

It took Nepal 42 minutes to break the deadlock when Punam placed the ball home after an overhead kick of skipper Niru Thapa found her unmarked inside the box.

Anita doubled the lead with a powerful right-footer after receiving a cut back in 72 minutes while Sabitra put the game into rest heading home an Anita cross in 81stminute.

Rekha completed the rout three minutes later after she received a forward pass of Anita.

Nepal will now face the winners between four-time champions India and Bangladesh in the final on March 22.
