India U15 women edge past Bhutan U15 by one goal in their last Group-A match of the SAFF Under-15 Women’s Championship 2018 at the Chalimithang Stadium on 13 August 2018.
With this win, India moved to the semi-final as Group-A Champions with Bhutan as the runners-up. Sri Lanka are the other team in the Group-A who are already eliminated losing both of their matches.
India, who overpowered Sri Lanka by 12 goals to nil in their opening match, faced stiff resistance from hosts Bhutan this time. Shilky Devi, India’s hat trick scorer in the first match, appeared as the savior to score the all-important goal in the 13th minute of the second half.
Bhutan looked much energetic against their heavyweight opponents and chose to attack from the beginning. The home side, though being pressed by India, never looked tired and instead kept India busy by going to create chances in their goalmouth.
India also left no rooms unmarked as they kept pressuring Bhutan’s defense line from different angles.
The second quarter of the second half seemed to be much productive for the India U15 women as few of their attempts got terribly close. It was really hard luck on Indians when a sure shot by Kiran hit the crossbar in the 57th minute. However, Shilky Devi made it happen in the very next minute when Bhutan goalkeeper Kinzang Dema advanced to stop her but failed. Shilky Devi then pushed the ball to an empty bar to lead her side go 1-0.
India U15 women are now up against Group-B runners up in their semi-final match set for 16 August 2018 while Bhutan will face Group-B champions in the next match on the same day.
