Hosts Bhutan U-18 women made a massive come back in the SAFF Under-18 Women’s Championship outplaying Maldives 13-0 in their second match at the Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu, Bhutan on 30 September 2018.
With this win on the backdrop, Bhutan U18 women’s semi-final hope now clings on the outcomes of last Group-A match between India and Maldives. Bhutan in their first match lost to India by four goals to nil.
The hosts in their do-or-die affair stormed into their opponents’ defense line from the onset and had breakthrough in the 3rd minute with a brilliant header by Yeshey Bidha. She doubled the score 2-0 with another header just after four minutes.
Midfielder Sonam Choden then took over the show and scored a hattrick that powered Bhutan U18 women to lead the first half 8-0. She bagged one more goal in the second half.
Besides, Namgyel Dem and Gallay Wangmo both scored twice while Jamyang Choden, Suk Maya Ghalley and Tandin Zangmo netted one goal each.
Maldives looked dull at any point of the match and did not produce single close attack against their opponents.
