Nepal U-18 women became finalists of the inaugural SAFF Under-18 Women’s Championship 2018 beating favorites India in the first semi-final at the Chalimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Friday, 5 October, 2018.
To know who they are going to play the final with, Nepal will have to wait for the result of second semi-final to be played between Bangladesh and hosts Bhutan in a few hours.
The result was decided through penalty shots but both the sides demonstrated a balanced performance in the first semi-final on the basis of attacks and counter attacks.
Attacking Nepal stunned India in the 15th minute when Rasmi Kumari Shising converted a pass from Rekha Poudel off the left wing to take 1-0 lead that they have maintained till the breather.
Rivalry raised to the highest peak in the first half as India women tried to level score with number of attacks towards Nepal goalmouth but none of their attempts saw the light.
Goalless India bounced back on track in the second half with India midfielder Tudu Jabamani equalizing the score in 62nd minute from a gentle push from a free kick.
None of the sides could score in the rest of the regular time and the result was decided by penalty shot.
Rekha Poudel and Anjana Rana Magar scored one goal each from the penalty and sealed the match (3-2).
India will fight for the third position against the defeated team of second semi-final which will be started on 7 October 2018 at 15h20 BST.
