Nepal won the SAFF U15 Women’s Championship title for the first time following a 1-1 draw with host Bangladesh in the match played at the Kamalapur Stadium on Friday.
Nepal remained unbeaten garnering 10 points from 4 matches in the three-team competition that followed a double round league format. Bangladesh finished with seven points, while Bhutan were unable to register any points.
Nepal came to the match needing just a draw to lift the trophy, while host Bangladesh, who had lost their previous encounter against Nepal by 1-0, needed all three points to keep the title home.
Sushila KC gave Nepal the early lead in the 14th minute but host Bangladesh looked charged to restore parity dominating possession. They found the equalizer in the 54th through MST Ruma Akter.
Bangladesh received a life line to even things up when they received a penalty in the 88th minute, but Nepal keeper Sujata Tamang denied MST Joynob Bibi Rita.
Sauravi Akanda Prity received honors for the Most Valuable Player and the highest scorer with nine goals. Sujata Tamang was adjudged the Best Goal Keeper. Bangladesh team also bagged the Fair Play Award.
